Forecast the Trend

As i have analysed before, Rei Kawakubo's collection is affected by the event happened in that year. The theme, color, cutting will be related to that event. And her inspiration is something happened in her daily life also the things related to the culture & art. She want to make unrealistic things happen in realistic.

So, i choose George Frideric Handel and his work for the inspiration in 2009 F/W. It is because the year of 2009 is the 250 of his death anniversary.


Handel (23 February 1685 – 14 April 1759)was a German-born Baroque composer who is famous for his operas, oratorios and concerti grossi. His most famous works are Messiah, Water Music.. Strongly influenced by the techniques of the great composers of the Italian Baroque and the English composer, his music was known to many significant composers who came after him, including Mozart, and Beethoven.

During the baroque period composers and performers used more elaborate musical ornamentation; made changes in musical notation. Baroque music expanded the size, range and complexity of instrumental performance, and also established opera as a musical genre.

As i use this as the inspiration, the Italian opera and Baroque music are the keys of the collection. Here are some pictures related to the inspiration.

The colors used on the left are red-orange, white and beige with some golden lighting; and for the opera, the colors are mainly in red but in different value.

As a result, in the collection i will use the designer's favourite color: achromatic color, use black, white, grey and the colors related to the theme: Red, Red-orange & Golden. And for the design, also use many ruffles and some Victorian style. And the make up also use red and golden color.


I hope the color using and the design can present 18th century and the baroque's feeling. I will try to make such feeling inside the collection, from untouchable to realistic. Let people feel the gorgeous and grand from the collection.

Couple or Trouble

Now, tvb is replaying a Korean drama, "Couple or Trouble". This drama is very nice, and i found that the Korea' s ladies like the red-violet color very much. The following pictures are the drama's actress, the 2 ladies are wearing the dress in violet and red-violet color. These 2 color are in high saturation. And the Korean ladies always use red or red-violet nail polish.


The colors give us the feeling of royalty, drama, mystery and like the noble.






Apart from the drama, one of the biggest cosmetic brand in Korea, "Missha" also used violet or red-violet frequently.

This is the advertisement of Missha in Hong Kong.

One of the event hold by Missha and JJ's company. Also use violet cloth for the desk.

So, i think the ladies in Korea like red-violet & violet co much.

we can see that these 2 print's colors used are quite similar, and the overall color are mainly in dark color (dark blue or black)

Designing color collections

i have spend nearly half a day to color this 30 sets of outfits..!!
and this 2 sets of outfit are my faviourite

summarize on our research

As we have found 2005 to 2008 Fall/Winter collections' information. We find that there have some similar points among these collections. Also the pattern of using color, design of the clothes.

COLOR:
uses sombre colours;
achromatic - black, white, grey;
monochromatic colors - (change the tint/value)
black (in different shade), white to beige, grey;
analogous colors;
similar levels of value & chroma

And she always use the Principle of resemblance. That mean the differences between the colors are less.


INSPIRATION:

The things influenced her daily life and she is looking for something unreliastic, untouchable and spiritual. Finally, let them happen in reliastic. For example, in 2006 present the concept of mixing feminine with the masculine & the operatic drama.


EVENT:


Rei Kawakubo' s every collection's theme have some relationship with the thing happened in that year., e.g. 2005 Memoirs of a Geisha; 2006 The Phantom Of The Opera' s 20th birthday; 2008 AmyWinhouse album” Back to Black “. And the color of collection also affected by these events, Geisha's makeup (white); the opera's costumes; AmyWinhouse's back to black.


Moreover, i found that these events are all related to the culture & arts: music, movie, drama. So, i think the following collection' s will follow this trend.

Rei Kawakubo like having ruffles in her collection. And always use lace and silk as the materials.

This is the print ad of miumiu, it mainly use blue color for a large proportion. However, 'blues' are in different value~

And the blue & green color make me feel relax.
